Scramble Golf Tournament & Scholarship Dinner '15
A record breaking number of attendees assembled for the Scramble Golf Tournament and Scholarship Dinner held at St. John the Baptist School in Kenmore. Golfers had been set to enjoy Sheridan Golf Course in the Town, but the weather did not cooperate. By the evening however, any memories of the dank day were washed away by the spectacular scholarship dinner and auction.
The school’s Klauder Hall was packed with a tremendous show of support that was clearly evident throughout the evening. Guests were entertained by the musical talents of Paul and Claire Weisenberger during Happy Hour before enjoying a catered dinner by Banchetti by Rizzo's. A party atmosphere really broke lose when the Live Auction began, hosted by the husband-wife duo, Sheila & Brian Mahoney (SJS parents). The crowd’s energy and enthusiasm was palpable and lively!
The tournament began nearly a decade ago and continues to thrive and grow. Michelle Salemi, Director of Advancement at St. John’s, announced that “Since its inception, the event has raised an overall total of more than $200,000 to date.” The funds are now exclusively dedicated towards providing scholarship and tuition assistance to families in need. Salemi credits the steadfast supporters, including sponsors, patrons, & loyal families, as key to the events success. “Our supporters are second to none,” says Salemi. “They want to help our own and quite literally fund the futures of our children. It’s this continuous process of growing our base of supporters that creates this level of success. And, it’s not just the individual families that we’re helping (by providing tuition assistance), but rather our entire school community in maintaining a thriving school. We are affording children the opportunity of a St. John’s Catholic education, which is a testament to this event and a testament to the strength and vitality of this school.”
Salemi credits her enormous team of volunteers who work tirelessly throughout the year leading up to the event. "I simply cannot adequately convey my thanks to the entire St. John’s community and beyond…the support from our families and neighborhood partners make for a tremendous outcome!”
