Communication is key to our success with the family/faculty relationships at St. John's. Monthly newsletters, electronic communication, webpages, and conferencing are just some of the ways we maintain contact. We look forward to sharing "What's New at School."
Teaching Minds, Touching Hearts, Transforming Lives
THE REASON FOR THE SEASON
Christian people are beginning to rediscover the meaning and power of Advent. No longer captivated by the countdown of "20, 19, 18 days until Christmas," we are beginning to see what a rich experience Advent can be when separated from the mad rush to buy, buy, buy! Advent is loaded with opportunities to prepare ourselves for the genuine joy our celebration of Christmas is meant to bring.
Advent is a time to slow down and practice the art of waiting patiently. Advent is a time to relish looking forward, a time to reinvigorate the spirit, to recall the reason why we celebrate. Advent is the time to recall that it is Jesus who is the reason for our hope, the spur to our repentance, the source of our love, and the cause of our joy.
Let us enrich our experience of Advent. A few minutes of reflective prayer each day will help your Advent be rewarding as you discover more deeply the true "Reason for the Season."
Let us pray: Lord of Advent, during this holy season fill our hearts with
hope and help us think thoughts of hope and joy.

Order your Gift Cards - Guaranteed to be the Perfect size!
The holidays are right around the corner!
The "Gift Card": fundraising program is already helping our school earn extra money. It is easy and convenient. Here is how it works:
- Complete the order form of local retailers that you received in your backpack mail folders, download order form – or contact the school office.
- Enclose your check with your order and have your child bring it to his/her teacher, or you can bring it directly to the school office. Include $.50 towards shipping if you would like B.E.S.T. credit.
- Orders received on Wednesday will be available to you the following Wednesday!
- Your gift cards will be available for your child to take home (in their backpack) or you can pick up the gift cards from the school office.
- Visit www.glscrip.com to view all of the available cards. You can even order cards for out-of-town friends and relatives as there are many different cards available in addition to the local retailers on the order form you received.
- Gift cards are also the perfect way to pay for your everyday shopping needs. You earn $$$ just by paying with a gift card!
- A portion/percentage goes towards your B.E.S.T. Program of every card ordered.
- If you are not sure of what gift card to buy someone, you can order a "gift certificate" that can be redeemed by the recipient. They may get the card they really want and you still earn the BEST credit.
If you have any questions, call Laurie Krygier at school, 877-6401 from 8 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. or evenings @ 895-7743.
Orders for the holidays are December 4th, 11th, and the Final Christmas order is Monday Dec. 16th – this will ensure delivery before the Christmas break.
Parents are requested to call the school office for all students (Pre-K 3 year olds to Gr. 8) who are absent. Kindly leave the message with the school secretaries before 8:30 a.m. or if you are calling earlier, please leave your message on voice mail. Also a written excuse must accompany the child when (s)he returns to school. We are looking at the safety and well-being of all our children. Remember to pick up homework (you must request the homework daily) on the homework shelf outside school office before 3:30 p.m. The office and Door #5 closes at 3:30 p.m. on normal school days. Fridays the door is locked at 3 p.m.

PREPARING OUR HEARTS FOR THE HOLIDAY SEASON
As we prepare our hearts and our homes for the holiday season, we also look to those less fortunate than ourselves. It is easy to forget that millions of people will not find a place at a table during this – or any other - time of the year. St. John's has helped some of those in need. We are continuing with our St. Nicholas Toy Drive from Dec. 2-6 to help the needy families in our community. We are asking the students to bring a new toy, game, etc. to school. They need not be expensive. You can find bargains at drug stores, Dollar General stores, Big Lots, Target, etc. OR. . .you may donate $5 by Dec. 4th and we will do the shopping for you at Fisher Price. The school has already been contacted by Kenmore West, Holmes Elementary School and St. Luke's to assist your generosity. You are your child's best teacher, as it is evident by their kindness and willingness to assist others. They now have the opportunity to share their kindness beyond the wall of St. John’s. God’s blessings to you and your family!
Sports News – St. John's Jaguars

St. John's took second place overall in Division II. GO JAGUARS! I am grateful to all the students who participate but also the coaches. . . especially, Chris Carocci, who will be leaving us this year as his last daughter graduates from St. John's. The Ambassador Program
A program that was initiated before the school year (2005-2006) was our Ambassador Program. It is designed to attract prospective new families into our school. I also want to "thank" the families who spread the "good news" about St. John’s excellent school. Participation in this program will reward you, when as a result of your efforts; a new family registers in our school. Just a reminder of how this program works. Grades 1 – 8 A New Family registering: Both the referring family and the new family will each receive a "$200 voucher" to apply towards their tuition. Pre-K and Kindergarten New Family: Both the referring family and the new family will each receive a "$50 voucher" to apply towards their tuition.
FAMILIES MAY EARN AN UNLIMITED NUMBER
OF VOUCHERS EACH SCHOOL YEAR!
NEW family must name the referring family on registration form.
The best endorsement of our school is your personal endorsement. I sincerely appreciate your positive comments and recommendations of our school!
Our Open House will be held on Sunday January 26, 2014 from Noon – 2 p.m.
A special note. . . Tuesday Dec. 10th is our school concert and Mrs. Brignone, our Music teacher and Staff members, are involved. Therefore the After School Program is ending at 5 p.m. on Dec. 10th for children who are participants in the SJS Singers and Children's Choir groups. Your child(ren) must be picked up by 5 p.m. The late fee rule will apply beginning at 5:05 p.m. ($5 for every 5 minutes late). Children attending the After School Care Program need to eat dinner and prepare (special attire) themselves for the evening's performance. THANK YOU for your cooperation and understanding!
