STATEWIDE PUPIL EVALUATION TESTING
All the schools in NYS will be administering the Pupil Evaluation Tests during the months of May and June. It is important that the children attend school on these days and that they be rested, have a nutritious breakfast in the morning, and be free of stress during this time. The schedules for these tests are as follows:
May 22 – 31 Gr. 4 & 8NYS Science Performance Test
June 3 Gr. 4 & 8 NYS Science Objective Assessment
June 12 @ 1:15 p.m. Gr. 8 Integrated Algebra Exam
These tests are mandated by the State of New York and are administered annually.

8TH GRADE MOTHERS' DAY PLANT SALE
Don't forget to reserve the date to purchase your Mothers' Day flowering plants ($2 each) or herbs ($2.50 each) which will be sold on Thursday May 9th and Friday May10th in the foyer of Klauder Hall. Any extra plants will be sold on Friday after every class had a chance to purchase a beautiful potted plant or two. Thank you for supporting this fundraiser for our 8th graders.
The Third Annual Spring Plant Sale (annuals sold in flats and hanging plants) order forms are going home asap with pick-up date of hopefully Thurs. May 23rd. Thank you, Mrs. Donnelly, for chairing this fundraiser.
Just an update that our spring uniforms are in affect which is the option of wearing navy blue walking shorts made of cotton twill, only a white polo short sleeve shirt or a white Peter Pan collar blouse. Shoes and white socks must also be worn.
A REMINDER TO PARENTS FROM THE HEALTH OFFICE
Listed below are the NY State requirements for students entering the following grades in September, 2013:
The second MMR (measles, mumps, rubella) vaccine is required by the first day of school*. Additionally, a current physical exam, completed after 9/4/12, is also required. 2nd, 4th, or 7th Grade – A current physical exam, completed after 9/4/12
6th Grade –
The Tdap (pertussis) booster is required by the first day of school if your child is 11 years old*. Students turning 11 in the fall will be tracked by the Health Office and you will receive a reminder.

GRADE 7 BROTHER MARTIN MATH CONTEST
Congratulations to our seventh grade students who showcased their impressive skills at the “Brother Martin Math Contest” held at St. Joseph Collegiate Institute. This enthusiastic group of math whizzes brought back 5 trophies, a record for St. John's. Trophies for individuals were awarded to Michael Franz, Alexander MacPherson, Noah Minton, and Will Roberts. The team was also awarded the overall 2nd place trophy. Great job to the entire team which included the four mentioned students and Max Brown, Julia Connerton, Kevin Downing, Michael Gianadda, Quinn Higgins, Cassie Kamens, Nathan Kohler, Allison Leahy, Caroline Mahoney, Steven Murphy, Isabella Montesanti, Jack Porcari, Declan Rapp, and Robbie Robinson. Mrs. Garrity is extremely proud of their accomplishment. I don’t think her smile has disappeared from her face!
2013 – 2014 (Next year) B.E.S.T. PROGRAM
For next year’s B.E.S.T. program the following parents agreed to help "chair" these events. The "Football Pool" is being chaired by Jessica and Ed Sidor; "Candy Bar" fundraiser is Renee and Jim Wiedemer which is held in September; Maureen Donnelly will chair "Cherrydale Farms" - a new company in October; Jennifer Crawford will chair the Discover Buffalo-Niagara Calendars in December; Donna Short will chair the "Easter Candy Sale" in January; and Angel Panowicz will chair our Gourmet Creations fundraiser held in March. Father Michael and I would like to express our sincere gratitude to the Educational Advisory Council for their support in the "Voices of Angels" Concert on Friday April 19th! What a beautiful variety of performers! All proceeds from the concert will be put into the "Angel Wing Scholarship Program". This scholarship program allow us to extend a quality education to those families who have a strong desire to send their children to St. John's, but face a financial struggle to do so. Thank you for an inspiring evening and your generosity – may God continue to bless you!
INVEST IN EDUCATION RALLY
The Invest in Education Rally held on April 10th was a huge success. More than 10,000 parents, teachers, and students were in attendance, a testament to the growing support for the Education investment Tax Credit bill. With widespread media coverage in local news outlets and beyond, our message is reaching audiences on a national level. This rally was the largest education-related rally in the state’s history and our involvement helped us make it the phenomenal success that it was. Thank you for all stakeholders for your support in this endeavor.

Mrs. Bunny is happy to announce that Anna Stang, a 6th grader, has been awarded Second Place in Division III in the SPCA Serving Erie County’s 2013 Humane Poster and Creative Writing Contest. Anna and her parents are invited to attend the Poster/Essay Award Reception on Wednesday May 29th at 7 p.m. at the Erie County SPCA, 205 Ensminger Rd., Tonawanda. Way to go, Anna!
