Dear Parents,
Happy New Year! We hope you and your families enjoyed the busy holiday season.
This week we will begin multiplication. The children will make flash cards to help them master the
times tables. We recommend a ten-minute drill each night. The boys and girls will begin to build their own
ice cream sundaes. Each time they successfully complete a times table quiz, they will add a new piece.
Perhaps we can celebrate with a real sundae when we learn all the times tables!
We will also be starting new units in Science and Social Studies. Energy will be the focus of our
Science unit. The Polar Regions will be the topic of a fun Social Studies unit.
We will be reading Mr. Popper’s Penguins as a class and this month’s “Book- It” project will have to do
with this book. These projects will be due at the end of the month. Watch for information to follow.
The children have been practicing cursive handwriting. Starting today, all work that is handed in
must be in cursive. We will be working towards our pen permits. After ten stars, the children will be
able to use erasable pen for their assignments, except in Math of course!
We are planning a special project where we will be communicating with friends around the world.
