FEBRUARY 2012
In math, students are continuing to work on fraction concepts such as least common denominator, lowest terms, mixed numbers, and improper fractions. Students are encouraged to practice basic multiplication facts at home. Many students are not at the mastery level for multiplication facts and are experiencing difficulty with simple computations because their basic facts are not memorized. You will help your child immensely if you can work in these facts for a few minutes each night.
In religion, we are reviewing what we know about the Eucharist, and adding new knowledge about why the Eucharist is so important to us as Catholics.
In science, we are studying about ecosystems. We are exploring the different biomes that make up our biosphere and comparing and contrasting them.
In English, we are continuing to study parts of speech. Soon, we will be having a chapter test on verbs, direct objects, and encyclopedia and thesaurus skills. Once we complete the test, we will begin our unit on explanatory writing.
Our February book report has been assigned already, and is due on February 13, 2012. Students are already reading their books about famous inventors. For this book report they will need to write a book report (using the regular format) as well as design a cover for their report that highlights the inventions their inventor created.
