

On-Site Ken-Ton Services: Various services are provided to our students to maximize learning in a variety of ways. Our school partners with the Ken-Ton School District to provide special services to eligible students to support the child's learning needs. "Push in" as well as "pull out" programs include one or more of the following:
-Special Education on-site by a certified, special education teacher
-Educational Testing and Counseling
-School Psychologist
-Speech and Hearing Therapist
-Occupational Therapist
-Health Services & Screenings by a full-time, on-site registered nurse
Reading Specialist: Grades K-4 work with a certified reading specialist if they are reading at one or two grade levels below their current grade level to strengthen their reading skills. Reading specialist also provides enrichment programs to accelerated students and coordinates grade level activities to promote entusiasm towards reading.
Math Program: Grades 4-8 benefit from small group math studies. Qualifying students complete the same NYS curriculum as their counterparts, but in a small group setting in order for the teacher to provide concentrated attention to support the students learning and ensure success.
Gifted and Talented Learners: Gifted and talent learners may participate in weekly enrichment through Ken-Ton's GT program. Additionally, St. John's reading specialist may provide enrichment support to maximize your child's potential.
Crunch 'n Munch Math: Grades 6-8 are offered Crunch 'n Munch Math Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays. This after school program is designed to remediate, reinforce and enrich students' understanding of mathematical concepts. Students 'munch' on a healthy after school snack while they 'crunch' some numbers.
High School Prep Course: Grade 8 students are offered an eight-week, intensive high school prep course. Students gain test-taking skills, strategies, and confidence leading up to the Catholic High School Entrance Exam. The course begins in September and runs right up to exam week. Student and parent feedback is positive and the success of the program is reflected in its popularity, as well as students placement to and awards from high schools.
Academic Intervention Services: Academic Intervention Services (AIS) is mandated by the NYS Department of Education for students who are not meeting or are barely meeting the NYS Learning Standards. St. John's is committed to your child's success and provides the services required to assist students.
