Kindergarten Updates:

As you know, due to the Covid-19 outbreak, we are not in session at this time. School is closed for the rest of the 2019-2020 school year.  I have been using Seesaw as a way to communicate with your child, as well as reinforcing and teaching new skills. I will continue to use Seesaw, as all of your children continue to do well with it and they are becoming more and more familiar with completing tasks with Seesaw. It is a nice way for me to grade and keep track of your child's work.

I can't believe it is June!! Where has the time gone? I have missed your children so much!! Parents, thank you for all that you have done this school year. I have been so blessed for both the gift of working with your children, as well as having the support and help from all of you. You will be receiving an updated email from me soon about our Kindergarten Celebration on June 17, 2020.

Here is a schedule for the remainder of the school year:

June 12th:            the last of work assigned on Seesaw

June 15th:             Field Day Lunch provided at school

June 16th:            Virtual Field Day Activities

June 17th:             Virtual Field Day Activities and Kindergarten Celebration

June 18th:                 Last Day of School

God Bless all of you!

Happy Father's Day!

Thank you for sharing your child with us!

The following is a list of skills and ideas that would be helpful for you to work on regularly with your child:

  • Read aloud to them daily and have them read to you!

  • Identify their name (first, middle & last).

  • Recognize the 26 letters of the alphabet (upper case & lower case).

  • Identify the sounds that each letter makes.

  • Print their first & last name.

  • Identify the basic colors of the rainbow.

  • Identify the basic two dimensional shapes (bonus for knowing three dimensional shapes).

  • Recognize numbers 1-20.

  • Practice counting by ones and tens (end of year goal is to count by both to 100).

  • Counting out objects to make groups of up to 20.

  • Help them identify and create rhyming words.

  • Practice coloring.

  • Practice cutting & gluing.

  • Encourage them to follow simple directions.

  • Practice being able to handle their own personal needs such as putting on and taking off their jacket. They should be able to zipper, snap & button most of their own clothing.

  • Help them learn to tie their own shoes.

  • Encourage proper handwashing & personal hygiene (use of tissues).

  • Independently open their own food & drinks for snack and lunch.

  • Practice address & phone number (end of year goal is to know both).

  • Model and encourage respectful behavior and good listening skills.

Our year end goal in Kindergarten is for everyone to be reading and writing independently!
